A rising star of Champagne

Everything began in 1925, for the Champagne house Jean-Marc Sélèque. That year, his grandfather Henri left Poland to come to France. He settled in the quaint little town of Pierry, to the south of Épernay, where he and his wife Françoise Bagnost bought a farm. During the 1960's, Jean Bagnost (Henri’s father-in-law and Champagne winemaker), advised him to invest in the local vineyard. Together, they began to produce and sell their very first wines.

Richard Sélèque, the son of Henri and Françoise, had been helping his parents at the estate since 1974. The oenology graduate started to modernize the various methods and tools employed by the Sélèques. His father and him also acquired many new parcels, in the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. Richard was a genius when it came to winemaking techniques, allowing him to turn the family name into a bonafide prestige brand.

Since 2008, Jean-Marc Sélèque has been managing the Champagne house. The young man is Henri's grandson and he got his start in the Napa Valley. Improving on the bases provided by his father Richard, Jean-Marc wanted to find a more durable approach to winemaking. To him, the vineyard and its surroundings had to be protected, no matter the cost. The champagnes produced by Jean-Marc are deeply complex and show a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in someone so young. The Bettane & Desseauve Guide even gave him the "Revelation of the Year 2019" award.

Jean-Marc has an artisan mindset, as he aims for precision and authenticity above all else. Today, he's at the helm of a 9 hectares vineyard planted in a clay and cray soil. 45 different parcels in total, on 7 communes, and 3 of these parcels are classified as grands crus. 50% of the harvest comes from Chardonnay grapes, while the rest comes from Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir.
