Six generations of Champagne artists
The world-famous champagne house Pierre Péters was created back in 1858. It all started when a man called Gaspar Péters left Luxembourg to settle in Mesnil sur Oger with his new wife. He began working on the 2-hectares vineyard owned by his new father-in-law, in the Champagne region. The couple didn't produce any champagne wine, actually. They simply harvested the grapes and sold them to the many local wine merchants. So did their son Louis-Joseph, when he inherited his parents' wine estate.
Gaspar's grandson, Camille Péters, was left in charge of the family company in 1919. It was then that things started to change a bit, because Camille was the first to make, bottle and sell his very own Champagne wine. In 1929, he even founded his new House Camille Péters. When he died, in 1944, his son Pierre Péters (who had been helping his dad with his work since he was twelve years old) was given the entire Côte des Blancs estate, which now bore his name. He developed it for as long as he could, until 1967.
That year, Pierre left the house in the capable hands of his son François Péters. For nearly 40 years, the young man continued what his father had started. He acquired many new parcels of vineyards to reach a total surface area of 17 hectares. He also invested a lot in the international market, resulting in 80% of the production of wine now destined to be sold abroad.
His son Rodolphe Péters took over in 2007, one year before his father François died. Rodolphe wants nothing less but to revolutionize the methods used at the estate, as well as improve the brand image of the champagne family. As the sixth generation of Péters, he aims to design champagnes that are pure and precise, somewhere between tradition and modernity. He will not hesitate to try out new things to achieve his goal. Rodolphe Péters not only is a perfectionist, he is also a fervent defender of nature, as shown by the "High Environmental Value" certification he was awarded.
