Tasting notes for the Champagne "Intransigeance" Brut - Marie Demets

  • EYE: When observing this champagne, its deep golden robe attracts the eye, and the consistency of its bubbles forms a delicate string in the glass.
  • NOSE: From the first olfactory contact, vibrant aromas of juicy pears and white peaches express themselves with great intensity, accompanied by delicate wafts of white flowers. A subtle honeyed note perfects this sensory bouquet.
  • MOUTH: The tasting reveals a mouth experience where the creamy texture combines with a lively zest. Flavors of white-fleshed fruits, dominated by pear and apple, skillfully intertwine with brioche notes, offering an exquisite balance.

In short: This "Intransigeance" Brut Champagne from the famous Maison Marie Demets embodies the uncompromising pursuit of quality, with an estimated aging potential between 4 and 7 years. Its complexity will slowly but elegantly unfold over time. To accompany this fine Champagne, consider fresh oysters, dill-infused salmon tartare, or pan-seared scallops with a butter sauce.

In the Heart of the Côte des Bar

In Gyé sur Seine, nestled in the renowned Côte des Bar at the heart of the Champagne region, the story of house Marie Demets begins. In 1950, the grandfather André Brément made the bold decision to start planting his own vineyard, laying the foundation for the family's winemaking adventure. Fifteen years later, in 1965, André took the plunge and quit his job as a vineyard worker to fully dedicate himself to his small estate. In 1972, a new chapter began with the arrival of André's son-in-law, Alain Demets, who took over the reins of the family estate with his wife, Marie Brément.

The year 1986 marked a significant turning point with the crafting of the first champagne cuvée from the estate, named "Marie Demets" in honor of the union of the two families. From the following year, the first cuvées were unveiled, revealing the passion and expertise that animate this Champagne house. Then, in 2008, a new chapter started with the arrival of Pierre, André's grandson. Rich from his experiences in Burgundy, Champagne, and New Zealand, the young man brought a breath of modernity while preserving traditional values.

In 2014, Pierre took the reins of the business and its 10-hectare vineyard, committing with passion to perpetuate the family tradition. Three years later, his wife Mathilde joined the adventure, providing unwavering support to her winemaking husband. Under the couple's leadership, a new cultural and winemaking philosophy emerged in 2017, focused on respect for the grapevines and the wine. This innovative approach reflects the constant evolution of Maison Marie Demets, rooted in family heritage but firmly looking towards the future.
