In the Heart of the Côte des Bar
In Gyé sur Seine, nestled in the renowned Côte des Bar at the heart of the Champagne region, the story of house Marie Demets begins. In 1950, the grandfather André Brément made the bold decision to start planting his own vineyard, laying the foundation for the family's winemaking adventure. Fifteen years later, in 1965, André took the plunge and quit his job as a vineyard worker to fully dedicate himself to his small estate. In 1972, a new chapter began with the arrival of André's son-in-law, Alain Demets, who took over the reins of the family estate with his wife, Marie Brément.
The year 1986 marked a significant turning point with the crafting of the first champagne cuvée from the estate, named "Marie Demets" in honor of the union of the two families. From the following year, the first cuvées were unveiled, revealing the passion and expertise that animate this Champagne house. Then, in 2008, a new chapter started with the arrival of Pierre, André's grandson. Rich from his experiences in Burgundy, Champagne, and New Zealand, the young man brought a breath of modernity while preserving traditional values.
In 2014, Pierre took the reins of the business and its 10-hectare vineyard, committing with passion to perpetuate the family tradition. Three years later, his wife Mathilde joined the adventure, providing unwavering support to her winemaking husband. Under the couple's leadership, a new cultural and winemaking philosophy emerged in 2017, focused on respect for the grapevines and the wine. This innovative approach reflects the constant evolution of Maison Marie Demets, rooted in family heritage but firmly looking towards the future.
