A new Morey-Saint-Denis reference
The Domaine Hubert Lignier is a father and son duo. Hubert and Laurent Lignier are managing this 9,5 hectares wine estate, located in Morey-Saint-Denis, on the Burgundy Côte de Nuits. The Lignier family has been harvesting grapevines since 1880, the year when patriarch Jacques Lignier bought the very first parcels of Pinot Noir and Aligoté varieties, near the small town. His sons inherited the property: first it was Jules, then Henri, Hubert and finally Romain. Five generations in total have been at the helm of the family estate, which slowly but surely became a reference in the region.
Unfortunately, Romain died in 2004. His brother Laurent picked up the mantle two years later to help his dad. Thanks to his business savviness and his many technical skills, Laurent Lignier improved the wine estate with talent. There are now 32 appellations (among which three grands crus and ten premiers crus) produced by the Domaine Hubert Lignier, such as the Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, or Clos de la Roche. The estate has adopted a very nature-friendly approach, with no chemical insecticides or herbicides. Only 50,000 bottles are made each year; mainly red wine.
