Ancestral wine estate of Vosne-Romanée

The Mongeard family has been cultivating grapevines since the 17th century; that is to say for more than 8 generations. Their wine estate is located on the famous Côte d'Or terroir (the union of the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits), in the heart of Burgundy. It's just near the village of Vosne-Romanée, not too far from the Clos de Vougeot and the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges (that's also where you'll find the Domaine Jean-Marc Millot, which used to lease its vineyard to the Mongeard-Mugneret family, in the late 1980's).

The family estate found fame in 1945, when the couple Eugène Mongeard and Edmée Mugneret founded the actual Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, not only by using both their names but also by putting together all their resources and vineyards. Their son Jean came to help at the estate when he was only 16 years old. He managed to convince his parents to bottle their wine at the estate instead of simply selling the harvest to other local winemakers (like the Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, for example). Jean was fairly young but he proved to be a genius winemaker.

Nowadays, it's Vincent Mongeard, the grandson of Eugène, who's been in charge of everything since the late 1990's. He made his debut at the estate in 1976. The current size of the Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret's vineyard is 30 hectares, with 35 different wine appellations. The estate's values are still the same as in the 1600's and they can be summed up in three simple words: nobility, elegance and quality.
