Winemakers in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1997
The Domaine Jean-Marc Millot was founded in 1997, but the family has been working in the vineyard since 1949, when René and Hilda Gilles (Jean-Marc's grandparents) planted the very first grapevines and began producing wine on the famous Burgundian Côte de Nuits terroir. Once retirement closed in on them, in 1978, the two winemakers chose to lease their vineyard to the Mongeard-Mugneret family.
When they got engaged in 1965, Jean-Marc's parents (André and Élisabeth Millot) wanted to reclaim the family vineyard. Unfortunately, they never managed to reach an agreement with the current tenants and had to go to court. It took years. In 1986, the Millots won the case and the Mongeard-Mugneret family had to give them the vineyard back. Meanwhile, the Millot family kept on making wine in their estate. Jean-Marc Millot, their son, came to work with his parents in 1981. One year later, he married Christine Gouroux.
Thirteen years after that, in 1995, Jean-Marc inherited the family business. He then merged the Domaine Millot and the Domaine Gouroux (which belonged to Christine's parents) together. Two years after the union, Jean-Marc officially opened the eponymous Domaine Jean-Marc Millot and released his first vintage. In 2000, the winemaker decided to stop using any kind of chemical pesticide and insecticide in his vineyard. His daughter Alix Millot started helping her father in 2014. Together, they adopted the biodynamic approach in 2018, without any official certification. The young woman has been working autonomously since 2016, on many beautiful appellations, such as the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru, Côte-de-Nuits-Village and more.
