Tasting notes for the Bourgogne Côte d'Or Chardonnay 2022 - Fabien Coche

  • EYE: This Chardonnay reveals a pale and luminous yellow color, reminiscent of the morning sun's rays. Its delicate color invites you to indulge in a tasting experience.
  • NOSE: Subtle aromas unfold harmoniously. Notes of freshly picked white-fleshed fruits, such as apple and pear, mingle with light hints of roasted hazelnut and white flowers. Accents of fresh butter provide an enveloping softness, while a gentle minerality reminiscent of rocky nuances adds welcomed complexity.
  • MOUTH: The fruity flavors elegantly reveal themselves, offering nuances of crisp green apple, juicy peach, and vibrant citrus. The silky and balanced texture caresses the palate, while the lively acidity brings a beautiful liveliness and delicately prolongs the finish.

In short: Fabien Coche's Bourgogne Côte d'Or Chardonnay 2022 is a delicate and refined white wine that embodies the essence of the Chardonnay grape variety. Its pale yellow color, subtle nose, and balanced palate provide a tasting experience full of freshness and finesse. With its fruity aromas, gentle minerality, and lively character, it pairs perfectly with light and delicate cuisine such as fresh seafood, grilled fish, and delicately prepared poultry. Whether enjoyed now or aged for 3 to 5 years, this Chardonnay is an excellent representation of high-quality white wines from the Burgundy region.

Famous wine estate of Meursault

Fabien Coche is the great-grandson of Léon Coche, the founder of the eponymous wine estate during the 1920's. Thus, he is also the cousin of Raphaël Coche, current manager of the Domaine Coche-Dury (created by Jean-François Coche, one of the most famous winemakers in the world). Founded in 1940, the Domaine Fabien Coche used to be called "Coche-Bizouard", when Fabien was still working with his father, Alain Coche-Bizouard.

In his Meursault estate, located on the Burgundian Côte de Beaune, Fabien Coche stays true to the old winemaking techniques his family came up with during the early 20th century. He switched to organic farming a few years ago, to take better care of his 10 hectares of vineyard, although he only asked for an official certification in 2020. The soils are manually tilled and not a single drop of chemical is used, neither in the vineyard, nor the vats.

The result? Red and white wines that are impressively balanced, with a strong fruitiness and an incredible freshness. You can taste these wines when they're still fairly young but they're also perfect candidates for a few years of aging in a cellar. Fabien produces many high-quality appellations, such as the Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, MonthélieAuxey-Duresses and other famous names. In total, around 50,000 bottles of wine come out of the Domaine Fabien Coche each year.
