Tasting notes for the Auxey-Duresses 2020 - Domaine David Trousselle

  • EYE: A bright and brilliant ruby red color. Its clarity and purity are remarkable. The wine offers a beautiful clarity and an attractive density in the glass.
  • NOSE: Fresh red fruit aromas, such as cherry and raspberry, harmoniously blend with delicate floral notes of violet and rose. Subtle and elegant hints of black pepper and cinnamon add a touch of spice. Discreet woody notes of vanilla and cedar complete the ensemble.
  • MOUTH: This Auxey-Duresses wine presents a silky texture and smooth tannins. The flavors of fresh red fruits unfold with freshness, offering notes of crisp cherry and juicy raspberry. Pleasant liveliness accompanies these flavors, bringing balance and dynamism. Delicate spice nuances meld with subtle minerality, adding complexity and depth. The finish is persistent and harmonious.

In short: The Auxey-Duresses 2020 from the Domaine David Trousselle comes from a small estate with a huge potential. It is an elegant and balanced wine that reflects the unique character of the terroir. Its expressive nose and silky mouthfeel make it very approachable even for newcomers. This vintage pairs perfectly with grilled meat dishes, such as beef fillet or duck breast. The Auxey-Duresses can be enjoyed now, but it can also be cellared for an additional 5 to 8 years to further develop complexity and evolution. A wine that's ready to be experienced right away, although with a bit of necessary decanting first. Very limited quantities available.

Other appellations from this estate: Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune Cuvée Olympe, Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune En Cré, Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune La Couleuvraie, Santenay, Coteaux Bourguignons Rosé, Bourgogne Aligoté, Auxey-Duresses...

Rising star from the Côte de Beaune

David Trousselle is part of the new generation of rising stars in Burgundy. He settled in Baubigny in 2014, on the famous Côte de Beaune, only 8 km away from Chassagne-Montrachet. When he was only 28 years old, this native of the region dreamt of becoming a viticultor. Which is why he studied hard in Burgundy and Bordeaux and once he came back home, he took ownership of the family wine estate. David Trousselle is motivated by his love for the job of winemaker, and he actually has only one simple goal in mind: to do better, every time. This is a promise he'll always honor.

On his 5 hectares of vineyard, where Chardonnay usually grows, David decided to plant Pinot Noir grapevines as well. In his estate, he uses techniques that are respectful of the vineyard and its surrounding environment. The harvest is entirely done by hand, almost nothing gets added to his wines, the aging process is done in oak barrels and can take up to a full year… In 2021, David Trousselle asked for the official AB (organic agriculture) certification, to cement his position as a defender of nature. The wines he produces are a bit more acidic than the norm, but they also have a nice minerality and impressive smoothness.

Good value for money. Not the biggest bourgogne ever, but really good.
