Great winemaker of the Côte de Beaune

The story of the Domaine Armand Heitz began with the Nié-Vantey family, which was well-known in the wine business during the 1860s. In 1900, Georges Lochardet, a successful wine merchant from the Côte de Beaune, married Marcelle Nié. They owned 20 hectares of grapevines as well as a few estates. Their son Armand Lochardet inherited half of the properties, which he worked on before leaving them to his three children.

His daughter Brigitte married Christian Heitz in 1983. A few years later, they founded the Domaine Heitz-Lochardet together, in Burgundy. The actual harvesting work was entirely done by Joseph Drouhin, who had a company in Beaune. Brigitte Lochardet also took great care of the vines of the estate, in accordance with the principles of organic winemaking.

In 2011, Armand Heitz (grandson of Armand Lochardet), fresh out of his school of oenology, took the helm of the Chassagne-Montrachet estate. Permaculture and agroecology were like a mantra for him. As a result, the work environment of the family business greatly improved. In the vineyard, Armand does the seeding, de-budding and composting on his own, as well as plenty of other tasks. This policy of non-interventionism, added to grapes of high quality are a winning combination.
