Wine merchant in Beaune
David Moret sticks out in the world of Beaune wine merchants. He kind of came out of nowhere, as no one in his family had anything to do with the wine business; there were no vineyards, no estates, nothing. David used to be a winemaking equipment salesman and many of his clients were vintners from the Côte de Beaune. He learned quite a lot from them, it seems, as he decided to become a winemaker as well. His trading house opened in 1999 and he soon specialized in white wine; the Meursault appellation, to be more specific.
For this self-made perfectionist, fruit quality is key. He only buys grape harvests from winemakers who have a reasoned approach to viticulture (manual plowing, fully organic fertilizers, deliberately low yields, and so on). For the vinification process, David uses brand new oak barrels, as to not impact the natural aromas of the many Burgundy climates he works with. The result is a selection of incredible wines, fresh and pure. David Moret produces many appellations, like Rully, Corton, Auxey-Duresses... He also has three grands crus wines: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne.
