Iconic winemaking family from Corsica
The Abbatucci family comes from old Corsican nobility, which has been living on the island for hundreds of years, to the south of Ajaccio. Its coat of arms (the golden lion and the black eagle) can be found on the bottle labels produced by the Domaine Comte Abbatucci. Deep roots, although the winemaking legacy of the family only started during the 1960's, when Antoine Abbatucci, then president of the Chambre d'Agriculture de Corse, decided to create a 18 hectares sanctuary dedicated to preserving some of the local plants, grapevines included.
By defending his Corsican heritage, Antoine laid the first stone of the now legendary family wine estate. His son Jean-Charles saw the true potential of this huge collection of traditional grape varieties (18 in total, among which the Vermentino, Sciaccarello and Nielluccio). He was the one who founded the wine business in 1992. Before that, his mother Jacqueline was taking care of the vineyard, since her husband died in 1976. Today, Jean-Charles is aided by his two brothers, Henri and Jacques Abbatucci. The three men have fully adopted the biodynamic principles since 2000. In 2015, the Domaine Comte Abbatucci entered the Académie du Vin de France, as the very first Corsican member.
