A rebirth of Champagne
The Champagne house "Les Roses de Jeanne", founded by Cédric Bouchard in honor of his grandmother, is fairly young. This estate and its less than 2 hectares of vineyard were created in the year 2000, on the commune of Celles-sur-Ource, in the Côte des Bar. Cédric has always been on a mission: to produce the purest champagne possible. The man is not very fond of bubbles, so you won't find too much of them in his bottles. He also wants to reduce the impact of wooden barrel aging on his vintages, to make sure that the taste of wine is not altered. In his eyes, precision and strength are key.
Cédric Bouchard is a very discreet man but his champagnes have made quite the bang when they were first released. He became one of the most iconic winemakers in the region overnight, with his particular style going against everything the bigger Champagne houses are currently trying to do. He recently switched to biodynamics, which reduces his already low output. Only 3,600 bottles are made every year by this tiny estate. Needless to say, champagne buffs are fighting tooth and nail to acquire one of his famous cuvées.
