Tasting notes for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 1999 - Georges Roumier

  • EYE: This Chambolle-Musigny displays a shiny and intense ruby color, announcing the quality of the 1999 vintage. Subtle purple reflections add a little touch of liveliness to the depth of this hue.
  • NOSE: A pure delight for the senses. Enchanting aromas of ripe red fruits, such as raspberry and black cherry, harmoniously blend with delicate notes of violet and sweet spices. Whiffs of undergrowth and leather complete this complex olfactory bouquet.
  • MOUTH: The palate offers a soft and precise attack, revealing a velvety texture. Flavors of red fruits express themselves with elegance, accompanied by nuances of licorice, cocoa, and a delicate woody touch. The tannins are perfectly integrated, providing a balanced structure and a lingering and pleasant finish.

In short: The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 1999 from the Domaine Georges Roumier is a remarkable wine that will captivate you with its finesse and balance. The brilliant ruby color, complex bouquet of red fruits and sweet spices, perfect harmony between fruity flavors and woody nuances... It's all here! This grand cru pairs ideally with delicate dishes such as roasted duck or quail, and even aged cheeses. It can be enjoyed now for its maturity, but it also holds the potential for aging in the cellar for another 5 to 10 years, allowing for further development and even more intricate tasting experiences in the years to come.

Fine wines of Chambolle-Musigny

The Domaine Georges Roumier was created back in 1924, when Georges married Geneviève Quanquin. The newlyweds decided to take care of the vineyard belonging to Geneviève's family and started their winemaking business. Over the years, Georges' talent as a winemaker made this little Burgundian estate the talk of the town. In 1961, his son Jean-Marie took the helm of the estate, until 1981. Today, Christophe (Georges Roumier's grandson) is the one managing the legendary domaine.

He takes the utmost care of the 12 hectares of vineyard, growing near the small village of Chambolle-Musigny, in the Côte de Nuits. As a way to show respect for the family traditions, and for the nature that has given him so much, Christophe has sworn to never use any chemical fertilizer. He even spends extra time pampering the oldest grapevines, which he thinks make the best wine. Per choice, yields are low (only 40,000 bottles per year), which means his different vintages can become quite rare.

Thanks to his hard work and a keen interest in international trade (a Japanese export office was established in 1987), Christophe turned the name "Georges Roumier" into a world renown brand. The wines he produces are all incredibly complex and balanced, able to reach their peak after just a few years of cellaring.
