Famous family estate from Chambolle-Musigny
For years, the Domaine François Bertheau was one of the best kept secrets in Chambolle-Musigny. This tiny (only 6 hectares) wine estate, which has existed for more than five generations, has now become one of the holy grails of Pinot Noir. François used to work in the vineyard with his father Pierre, since 1984. When Pierre died, in 2004, his son inherited the entire estate as well as his dad’s love for winemaking.
François is not looking for glory or anything like that. He simply wants to make the purest wine possible. A way to introduce everybody to the terroir and nature he loves so much. Here, the vineyard (planted some 45 years ago) can produce up to 15 000 bottles per year. His wine itself is typical of the Burgundy region although quite complex, unfiltered, with a powerful taste of fruits and smooth tannins. Among his greatest appellations are the Bonnes-Mares and the famous Les Amoureuses; two of the biggest names on the Côte de Nuits.
