Domaine Ponsot

Reputed estate of Morey-Saint-Denis

In 1872, the Ponsot family bought the Liébault estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, as well as two prized parcels in Burgundy: the Clos de la Roche and the Clos des Monts-Luisants. The patriarch, William Ponsot, took the helm of the winery. Over the years, he expanded the estate but died in 1926, with no children. That's when his nephews Henri and Hyppolite took over, in 1920, as William had planned before his passing.

1932 was the year the two brothers began to bottle their wine in the estate. Two years later, they sold their first vintage on the French market, and then internationally. In 1942, Jean-Marie, son of Hyppolite, came to work in the 6 hectares vineyard, assisting his father (who chose to retire in 1957). In 1981, Laurent Ponsot also started training in the Domaine Ponsot. He and his sister Rose-Marie ultimately became its sole owners, until 2017 when Laurent left everything in her hands.
