Domaine Coche-Dury

Cult winemaker from Meursault

Some of the most famous wine critics around have been praising Jean-François Coche-Dury for years. Robert Parker, for example, called him "one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth". The Revue des Vins de France, said that the bottles produced at the estate were like "incredible vials of legendary quality". Quite the compliment, indeed!

Above all, Jean-François is in love with the vineyard. He began his career in the 1960's, lending a hand to his father (Georges Coche) at the family estate, in Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune. In 1973, he inherited the domain, with its 10,5 hectares of grapevines and many appellations, and got to work. The wine lover revealed himself to be a wine genius, constantly reaching for perfection.

Thus, he strives for quality, which explains why he only keeps a limited number of plots: he wants to concentrate all his efforts on his wine. Jean-François and his son Raphaël (a friend of the Boisson family) work in the traditional Burgundian way, but much more meticulously. Although he likes to say that his wine is "just wine", true connoisseurs know that his bottles are works of art!
