Domaine Colin-Morey
The genius of Chassagne-Montrachet
Pierre-Yves is the son of famous Burgundian winemaker Marc Colin, well-known by Saint-Aubin enthusiasts, and the husband of Caroline Morey. After a dozen years spent working with his father, the young Pierre-Yves decided to create his very own estate in 2005. He set his sights on Chassagne-Montrachet, a charming little village from the Côte de Beaune, next to a rich vineyard that was planted during the 4th century.
Pierre-Yves owns 6 hectares, which belonged to the Colin family, and produces many appellations such as the Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet or Santenay... In total, the estate makes around 70 000 bottles per year. Here, a considerable time and effort are spent on the entire winemaking process, from what happens in the vineyard to what goes in the bottles.
Pierre-Yves works without stirring lees and doesn't filter his wines. His philosophy stems from a deep respect for nature. Terroir is the most important thing at the Domaine Colin-Morey, which is why Pierre-Yves is constantly looking for sustainable ways to fight pests. This very selective use of pesticides could even be seen as a first step towards more organic methods.
