Domaine Chantal Lescure
Fine wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges
The Domaine Chantal Lescure is one of the most recent wine estates in Burgundy, as it opened its doors in 1975, in the commune of Nuits-Saint-Georges (located to the north of Meursault). Despite its young age, the estate quickly became famous for the quality of its wines. The 18 hectares of vineyard managed by Chantal and her husband Xavier Machard de Gramont are nestled between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. There are 35 parcels and around 20 different appellations in the vineyard, such as Chambolle-Musigny and Volnay.
When Chantal died, in 1996, her two sons Aymeric and Thibault took the helm of the family estate. They immediately thought about the way they were doing things, to define whether the vinification and winegrowing methods were the right ones. As a result, the Machard de Gramont brothers decided in 1997 to try a more organic approach. Since September 2009, all the wines produced by the Domaine Chantal Lescure are now AB certified.
The soils of the vineyard are a blend of clay, silt, pebbles and limestone. Here, grape harvesting is done entirely by hand and the winemaking process is deliberately non-interventionist. This in turn ensures that the red and white wines made by the two brothers can transmit all the specificities of the incredible Nuits-Saint-Georges terroir, in a never ending quest for purity and authenticity.
