Bowmore
The Art of Time and Whisky
The Bowmore distillery, located in the eponymous village, is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Located on the shores of Loch Indal on the Isle of Islay, Bowmore has been producing exceptional whiskeys for 240 years.
Founded in 1779, Bowmore Distillery is the very first in Islay to obtain a spirits manufacturing license, and the second one in Scotland. It was with its acquisition by the brothers James and William Mutter that fame grew. The brothers had a canal built that diverted the Lagan River, whose excellent quality water would allow the distillation of low-peat but powerful single malts.
The distillery went through several crises and takeovers, and was even used by the Allies as an air base during World War II. The Bowmore spirit is a blend of stability, longevity and a tradition that is not afraid to evolve. "The art of time" is the motto of the house, demonstrated through delicate whiskies, both subtle and precise. A balance achieved thanks to the waters of Lagan and Loch Indal (a slightly saline lake). An art of time and precision.
