Laphroaig
An exceptional whisky
Founded in 1815 on the Isle of Islay, located on the road to Kildalton, Laphroaig forms with Ardbeg and Lagavulin the "Golden Triangle" of the Isle of Islay. The Laphroaig distillery produces one of the most contrasting and striking whiskies. Love it or hate it, the heavily peated single malt from this distillery is unforgettable.
The Laphroaig distillery stands out in the Scottish whiskey landscape. First, it is one of the last distilleries whose kiln is still in operation, allowing it to malt on site about a third of its barley. Another special feature is the huge peat bog, owned by the distillery which, it is said, could supply it for 4,000 years! Finally, and even if the distilleries of Islay are known and renowned for their peated whiskies, Laphroaig is undoubtedly one of the strongest, because the water drawn from the source of Loch Kilbride is filtered in the immense bog of the distillery, reinforcing the acidity and smoky flavor of the single malts that have made the reputation - divisive but undisputed - of this great house.
Laphroaig whisky offers a sweet finish, with equal notes of citrus and smoke. Almost like a dance; subtle and delicate. It is even recommended, for informed amateurs, to add a few drops of fresh water during the tasting of this spirits to bring out the nuances of smoke and peat.
