Domaine Prieuré Roch

Biodynamic wine since 1988

The story of the Domaine Prieuré Roch, located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, is linked to two other famous wine estates: the Domaine Leroy and the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. At the center of it all, there is one single man: Henry-Frédéric Roch. He was the grandson of Henry Leroy, the beloved founder of the eponymous estate, and the son of Pauline Roch-Leroy (who was the sister of the legendary Burgundy queen, Lalou Bize-Leroy).

Henry-Frédéric was also Aubert de Villaine's business partner, with whom he managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti since 1992, after his aunt Marcelle (the iconic "Lalou") left the company. But above all, Henry-Frédéric was the proud founder of the Domaine Prieuré Roch, created in the small village of Premeaux-Prissey in 1988. A fierce advocate of biodynamic farming, like his aunt, he strove to produce the most natural wine possible. That's why he chose the Egyptian hieroglyph related to ancestral winemaking techniques, to adorn the labels of his bottles.

The man was one of the most passionate and visionary individuals there ever was. He cultivated his 14 hectares of vineyard on the Côte de Nuits with such love and craft that it truly was a sight to behold. In 2002, he started training a young apprentice named Yannick Champ, before he gave him the keys to the estate in 2010. Eight years later, in 2018, Henry-Frédéric passed away. He was only 56 years old. After having spent more than 15 years working for the master, Yannick now fights day after day to keep his legacy alive.
