Château Haut-Batailley
Iconic Pauillac wine estate
In 1866, Constant Halphen, a banker from Bordeaux, bought the Pauillac castle and gave it to Francis and Marcel Borie. The two brothers then bought Batailley in 1932 and divided into two parts: the smaller one became "Haut Batailley"; the other one, which included the castle, kept the name "Batailley". Francis Borie acquired "Haut-Batailley" and expanded it when he acquired Duhart-Milon in 1951. Upon his death in 1953, the estate went to his daughter and, after his death in 1998, his nephew inherited it.
In 2009 the family completed a total renovation of facilities, with the reconstruction of the winery and cellars, to allow a further progression of "Haut-Batailley". The vineyard of 22 ha is located southwest of the appellation, growing in soils made of large and deep Garonne gravels. The vineyard is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
