
Château Léoville Las Cases
One of the greatest wine estates in Saint-Julien
Château Léoville Las Cases is a winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, not far from the famous Château Latour. The name of the castle "Château Léoville Las Cases" is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
Léoville-Las Cases was one of the first winery in Bordeaux to introduce a second wine named "Clos du Marquis". Since 2007, the Chateau has offered a new wine known as “Le Petit Lion de Marquis de Las Cases”. The vineyard area in total represents 97 hectares. The largest plot (60 hectares) of Léoville-Las Cases vineyards is known as the "Grand Clos".
The "Grand Clos" is located on the northern boundary of St-Julien, with only the Juillac tributary separating its vineyards from those of Château Latour. The grape variety distribution of the vineyard is 65% of Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% of Merlot, 12% of Cabernet Franc and 3% of Petit Verdot. Today the vines average 30 years of age.
