Organic Volnay wines
Founded in the 19th century in Volnay (on the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy), the Domaine Michel Lafarge is a family business above anything else. It was Henri Lafarge who first chose to bottle his wines at the estate, in 1934. Before, he simply sold his grape harvest to local wine merchants, as did many of the other winegrowers. In 1949, his son Michel Lafarge joined him so he could train to become a true winemaker as well. Henri's grandson Frédéric Lafarge soon followed, in 1978. He is now at the head of the family estate.
In 1997, the estate adopted organic agriculture for its 12 hectares of vineyard. Then, in 2000, the switch to full biodynamics happened. In 2014, Frédéric Lafarge and his wife Chantal Vial-Lafarge decided to try their hand at Beaujolais wines. Together, they founded a new estate in Fleurie. The Domaine Lafarge-Vial was born, with its incredible Clos Vernay. Frédéric and Chantal's daughter, Clothilde Lafarge, now works with them in the vineyard (4 hectares in total, 100% biodynamic) and the cellar. Although Michel Lafarge died in 2020, his legacy is in good hands.
