Libournais
Discover the Libournais appellations
The Libournais vineyard is wedged between the Dordogne and Gironde French departments. It's not really a single Bordeaux vineyard, but rather a cluster made of 5 smaller ones, with their own specificities. These are the famous Saint-Émilion, Castillon, Fronsac, Pomerol and Côtes de Francs. The soil is composed of clay, sand and gravel.
This vineyard mainly produces wines from grape varieties like Merlot and Cabernet. Most of them are coming from world renowned estates, such as Château Pétrus, Château l'Évangile or Château Angélus. Many wines from this region are classified as Grands Crus, and a lot of wine estates have switched to a 100% organic production.
