Montrachet
Discover the Montrachet appellation
The Montrachet appellation can be found in a little 8 hectares Burgundy vineyard. It is one of the 5 Grands Crus of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. This AOC is planted on a small hillside, facing east (towards the village of Puligny) and south (towards Chassagne), at 255-270 meters of altitude. In the lower part, the soil is rather poor in nutrients, with a blend of silica, clay, iron oxide and carbonate salt.
In the upper part of this Côte de Beaune vineyard, the soil is composed of red marls, rich in quicklime. Here, the weather is rather mild, which is perfect for the production of majestic wines that are soft but have a strong backbone nonetheless. The total output of the Montrachet vineyard can reach 310 hectoliters of wine per year.
