Morey-Saint-Denis
Discover the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation
Located between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the most prolific villages in the Côte de Nuits when it comes to Grands Crus. The higher part of the vineyard, exposed to the east, mostly produces strong and meaty red wines. These are not limited to the upper side, since they also grow in the "Burgundy Piedmont", with its clay and limestone soils.
The Morey-Saint-Denis AOC applies to a 100 hectares vineyard, encompassing 5 Grands Crus, 20 Premiers Crus and many Village appellations. All these climates can be found on the slopes of a combe (a fairly frequent occurence in the Côte de Nuits), and right next to them sits the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation.
The annual output for these almost exclusively Pinor Noir red wines is 3,500 hectoliters (plus 190 hectoliters of white wines, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc). These wines are prime candidates for a few years of cellaring.
