Discover incredible foreign wines
We all know that France is extremely proud of its wines, whether they come from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Jura, Alsace, the Rhône Valley, or the Provence... But let's not forget what the other countries can produce! We have selected here some of the very best foreign wines. Among the biggest producers, you'll find Italy, the USA and Germany. Switzerland and Spain are also pretty solid contenders when it comes to quality.
Italy has a rich history in winemaking, which probably started with the Etruscan civilization and still continues today. In fact, the Italians are the greatest winemakers on the planet, and the quality of their wines only gets better with time (Tuscany, Abruzzo or Piedmont are especially famous for their products).
On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, and despite their young age, the United States also made winemaking history. The Napa Valley, one of the most prestigious vineyards of the entire country, was started in the 19th century and is now the home of many illustrious domains, such as Harlan Estate and many others.
As for Germany, in spite of its smaller vineyard (a tenth of the ones you can find in France, for example), the country has a long tradition of winemaking as well. It started in Ancient Roman times with Emperor Probus, who was the founder of German viticulture. Although the yields are low, there are many little gems to be found there, such as the nature wines made by Enderle & Moll.
