Gevrey-Chambertin

Pleasure Wine: Gevrey-Chambertin Wines

Discover the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation

The AOC Gevrey-Chambertin comes from the eponymous Burgundian village, in the Côte de Nuits (a dozen kilometers South from Dijon). The 410 hectares vineyard is located at the back and on the sides of the combe of Lavaux. This entire area can output up to 17,700 hectoliters, among which 3,400 hectoliters are used to produce the famous Premiers Crus.

The wines from this specific parcel of land are all very different, depending on climates and soils (mainly clay and limestone). There are 9 Grands Crus growing in the southern part of the combe, as well as 26 climates classified as Grands Crus to the north. On top of that, you can add the village appellations, often found in the "Burgundy Piedmont". These appellations are made with Pinot Noir, also called Pinot Noirien. They age gracefully, but they need at least 10 years of cellaring before peaking.
